John Legend Gives ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ a 2019 Makeover With Kelly Clarkson

Baby It’s Cold Outside has gotten a fair share of backlash the last couple of years.

The Christmas classic features the woman of the song repeatedly telling her date ‘I really can’t stay’, while the man pressures her to spend the night – with the line ‘Say what’s in this drink?’ coming off particularly badly.

But John Legend has revealed that he and Insecure writer Natasha Rothwell have rewritten Baby It’s Cold Outside with less problematic lyrics.

“I really can’t stay (Baby it’s cold outside)/I’ve gotta go away (I can call you a ride)/This evening has been (So glad that you dropped in)/So very nice (Time spent with you is paradise)/My mother will start to worry (I’ll call a car and tell ’em to hurry).”

It will be included in a deluxe version of his Christmas album, A Legendary Christmas, on November 8th.
