Nicki Minaj Claims Twitter’s New Voice Feature Was Her Idea

This week, Twitter unveiled a new feature called Voice Tweets. The name is pretty self-explanatory; select users can now record audio to complement their tweets, at a maximum of 140 seconds per tweet.

In the first few days after its release, a lot of celebrities began to try out the feature, sometimes with humorous results. We’ll get to those in a moment. But while some were having fun exploring what Voice Tweets could do, one rapper was brooding about how it might have been her intellectual property the whole time.

Back in 2017, Nicki Minaj tweeted out an idea that’s awfully similar to what the “Bird App” just implemented.

Can y’all go on Twitter & tell them give me my money for this new voice note feature I told them to add in 2017? 🤧

So, were Voice Tweets actually Nicki’s idea the whole time? Did Twitter and its CEO Jack Dorsey steal the idea from rap music’s most controversial queen? We may never know for sure.

What we DO know is that one of Nicki’s most famous fans, Lil Nas X, has been enjoying his Voice Tweets. The following audio is NSFW, so make sure your boss isn’t around if you’re playing it out loud.

Speaking of NSFW audio, Cardi B also trolled the twitterverse with a “snippet” that ended up not being from her upcoming song, after all:

But not everybody stayed horny on main with the new feature. The legendary creative mind behind “Hamilton,” Lin-Manuel Miranda, shared something a little more beautiful with his new audio capabilities:

So, what’s the future of Voice Tweets look like? Well, if it were up to Nicki Minaj, it would involve a lot of royalties. But perhaps in the eyes of Lil Nas, it’s just another way to create memes and laughs.
