Burger King UK sent out a tweet on International Women’s Day that was intended to bring attention to the disparity between men and women in the culinary industry.
It read: “Women belong in the kitchen.”

It did not land well.
BK followed it up with an explanation of what they were doing, and how they were actually launching a scholarship program to help more women pursue careers in the culinary field but the reactions still poured in.
I get the point but this is NOT the way to get attention what the hell https://t.co/MmoykjA9An

Originally, BK stood by its tweet and the meaning behind it saying, “We decided to delete the original tweet after our apology. It was brought to our attention that there were abusive comments in the thread and we don't want to leave the space open for that.” That tweet has now been deleted.
Why would we delete a tweet that’s drawing attention to a huge lack of female representation in our industry, we thought you’d be on board with this as well? We’ve launched a scholarship to help give more of our female employees the chance to pursue a culinary career.

And they eventually took down the original tweet and apologized.
