Among the key factors they looked at: access to maternity care, legal protections for mothers, and the cost of living in each city. So now that you know how the research was conducted, you might be disappointed by the results:

Norfolk, VA was named one of the WORST cities in America for new mothers, at 165th overall! Richmond wasn’t much better, coming right before at 164th.

The ugly trend continued for the Seven Cities, with Newport News clocking in at 144th and Chesapeake averaging out at 103rd nationwide.

So which cities in Hampton Roads are actually GOOD for new moms? According to the data, Virginia Beach is the 95th-best spot in the USA, scoring the best rating in the (757).
