It feels good to be #1!
A recent study from AdvisorSmith just ranked Virginia Beach as the safest large city in America, based on FBI crime data, and that’s great news. What’s not so great is that the Neptune City was the only city in Virginia to make the list…
But at least you know that if you’re on the Oceanfront, you’re pretty much safe. Using that FBI data, the researchers found that VA Beach has an average violent crime rate of 11.8 per 1,000 people, and a property crime rate of 17.6. Those numbers don’t mean a lot just by themselves, but apparently in context, they’re the best of the best.
One important note: the study was conducted using the FBI’s most recent reports, which accounts for crimes committed in 2019. So it’s possible that with everyone cooped up inside the house last year due to COVID, Virginia Beach was probably even safer in 2020! Let’s hope that with the world opening back up, we can keep our gold medal – it’s great to be #1, after all.
