3 Random Things We Learned About Hampton Roads This Week

WatersOnAir

These fun facts won’t make you the life of the party, but they’re still mildly interesting! After another week of the (757) doin’ it’s thing, here are three random news items that are both average and amazing:

  • Trains have birthdays. You can’t live in Norfolk without eventually seeing The Tide, chugging along its light rail lines and delivering commuters across the Mermaid City. Thursday, August 19th was The Tide’s 10th birthday, and to celebrate, the city of Norfolk offered free rides all day.

  • It’s about to be (even more) expensive to live here. According to a new study by Porch, the average home price in Virginia Beach is projected to increase by a full 11.4% over the next year. Right now, the median housing cost is $278,282, slightly below the national average… but not for long.

  • We’re home to an airport baby. Thursday afternoon, the Norfolk Airport Authority received a call from a woman who says she gave birth to a baby in the Norfolk International Airport bathrooms! That happened at 3:54pm, and both the woman and baby were transported to get medical care soon after. No other details are known… but we could have endless fun helping her pick a name (Delta? Terminal?).
