Joshua Bassett has opened up about the stress he endured following the relase of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License.”
The High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actor says the hate he received following its release was so intense that he ended up in the hospital with heart failure.
He told PEOPLE, “Every day I felt worse and worse. I was sleeping 16 to 20 hours a day. I couldn’t even stand up for longer than 30 seconds. I felt my heart literally failing. I was like, ‘This isn’t just anxiety. This is bad.'”
He finally went to the hospital, where he says doctors told him he was 12 hours from death. “The doctors were like, ‘If you hadn’t checked in within 12 hours, you would have died in your apartment,’” he says in the issue of PEOPLE. “It’s wild that I was this close to taking another nap.”
He says that he is managing his depression and anxiety now with therapy, yoga, and meditation. “In this last year a lot of my biggest fears came true. But in that, I found that I’ll always be OK, if not better off.” he tells the outlet.
