Dancing onto the disco scene 50 years ago, KC and the Sunshine Band are still as widely popular today as they were when they originated in 1973. Under the direction of Harry Wayne Casey — affectionately known as KC — the group released their first record “Blow Your Whistle,” which made the top 15 on the R&B chart.
KC introduced a unique fusion of R&B funk with a hint of a Latin percussion groove that delivered an impressive string of hits like “Get Down Tonight” and “That’s The Way (I Like It).” With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards, and an American Music Award, KC and the Sunshine Band became the first to match the Beatles record — scoring four No.1 pop singles in a 12-month period.
This year, KC and the Sunshine Band will celebrate five decades of musical entertainment and influence. As one of the most progressive bands of the 70s, the band is credited with changing the sound of modern pop music — inspiring musical artists such as Beyoncé, White Zombie, Baha Men, and Snoop Dogg. KC and the Sunshine Band play over 100 live shows annually, circling the country and playing dates regularly throughout Europe, Australia and South America.
